Featured Artist of the Week: Moon Rabbits

Moon Rabbits

What are your band member’s names?
Brandon Hitts and Christopher Allen

How and when did the band start?
Chris and I became really close after I had a pretty nasty falling with my band(s) last year in April. We took the year to explore music and get in touch with who we were and try to tackle the “producer” chair ourselves. Then, when everything felt like it was in a good place, we wrote/recorded some songs and put them out as an EP under the name Moon Rabbits.

Where are you located?
Davison, MI. About 20 mins outside of Flint. It’s a small, relatively quiet place.

What genre would you place your music in?
Rock. We like to explore every angle and sound of rock n’ roll and when you start labeling yourself as punk, indie, alternative, psychedelic, etc. you start limiting yourself.

What are your musical and non-musical influences?
Cage The Elephant, Brand New, The Doors, Death Cab For Cutie, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Nirvana, Alt J, The Smiths, The Cure, Galaxie 500, honestly too many, you can borrow our record collection sometime if you’d like.
As far as non musical goes, I think we are influenced by a lot of things, I’m not sure if we notice when we apply them, but I like to think every thing has its own effect on us somehow.

What are your dreams and goals?
Live comfortably while doing what we love to do; make music.

Who writes the songs and what topics do you like to touch on?
We both write songs and generally I think we touch on the topics that touch us. Most of what we write is undeniably personal to either one or both of us.

What inspires you to make music?
It’s the only place you can’t be interrupted. When you sing a song, it’s like the world actually shuts up for at least 3 minutes and just listens. Admittedly, the message may not always be the right one, it may not touch everyone the same way, but if you can make just one person feel less lonely by singing and connecting about something that only they thought they understood, why wouldn’t you?

What do you want your fans or potential fans to know about you?
We’re not doing this to make a bunch of money or to have cool hipster friends. We’re here to be YOUR friend. We’re here to sit on your shelf, collecting dust until you need us. Maybe our music isn’t the best, but if it speaks to you and helps you in anyway, we’ll be there.

Do you have any upcoming events?
We’re gonna release some music videos within the next couple of months. Recruiting live band members and writing/recording our full length.

Where can fans buy your music/merch?
Our music is free. You can listen to our EP on YouTube. Easiest search result is “Moon Rabbits EP”. And we’re working on having merch available within the next 2 months and our EP download able as well. When it is ALL available, it will be the most accessible through our twitter @MoonRabbitsBand

  1. High quality of information. At first, I thought your post was a long time, but it surely needed the length.
